THE EXHIBITION “NOW 2017”

Place: MOMMA, Moscow
Year of creation: 2015
Curated by Antonio Geusa, Elena Okopnaya

Our retrospective work on the creation of the exhibition “Now 2017”.

This is a bold attempt to take the visual concept of the film “Under Electric Clouds” beyond the screen, prolonging the dialogue with the audience in the museum space in the format of an exhibition. Most of the props in the film are art objects specially created by artists and sculptors for the film.

“It’s 2017,” we hear a voiceover, “a hundred years have passed since the Russian Revolution.” The world is waiting for a big war. The characters in the film live completely different lives, but each of them belongs to those who are called “superfluous people” in classical Russian literature. The image of an unfinished building, invented by us, became a key symbol around which the fates of these heroes were scattered.

The exhibition space is eclectic and filled with diverse objects, the composition is based on complex combinations of textures and materials: plastic and wood, old brick and luminous screens, transparent fabric and plaster, black latex and copper. The indisputable decoration of the exhibition was the presence of paintings by Petrov-Vodkin and Malevich.
